
Foods to Help Constipation
Did you know that four
million Americans suffer from constipation? Despite the fact that
so many people are suffering, no one talks about this problem.
While you might be starting to think that you have to suffer from constipation, this is not necessarily
true. There are foods to help constipation that you can eat and
enjoy and make help you become more regular so you don’t have to suffer through the pain and discomfort of
constipation anymore.
Some of the foods for
constipation that you want to work into your diet might include:
Foods high in fiber. If you don’t know much about fiber
this broad statement may not work well for you. You especially want
to eat foods that contain high amounts of soluble fiber. These
foods include but are not limited to beans, barley, oats, apples, bananas, cranberries, figs, grapes, peaches,
and fruits. Other foods that are high in fiber include oatmeal,
brown rice, sweet potatoes, peas, okra, kale, carrots, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and asparagus. Other foods that might be helpful include cereal, seeds, wheat bran, whole
grains, and fruit and vegetables with the skins on such as pears.
Wash it down. All of these foods high in fiber need to be washed down with someone. You might be tempted to
reach for the soda, the tea, or even the coffee but you should resist as these contain caffeine and will
actually contribute to the constipation rather than relieving it.
You should pair all of these high fiber foods with plenty of water, even if you are not thirsty. You need really drink at least 10 eight ounce glasses of water every
day. The more water the better things will continue to
move.
Lubricate the pathways. You can help to get things moving again by using healthy oils such as olive oil or canola
oil. Cook with these fats or use them in your
salads. These will help to lubricate the bowels and get things
moving again or keep them moving freely at all times.
Traditional Foods for Constipation.
If nothing else, don’t forget the foods that have been known to work for
ages. Figs and prunes continue to be two of the best foods for
constipation. They both have natural laxative effects that will
help you be more regular while not causing the stomach cramps and diarrhea that a lot of people experience with
less natural constipation treatments.
